The Three Caballeros Collection by Dooney and Bourke was released on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 on Disney Store.  

2024 not only marks Donald Duck’s 90th anniversary. This year is also the 80th anniversary of the 1944 Disney film, The Three Caballeros! The film premiered in Mexico City on December 21, 1944. 

The Three Caballeros is an animated Disney film that celebrates Latin American culture. It was also one of the first productions to blend live-action and animation. The movie features Donald Duck, who embarks on a vibrant journey through Latin America, accompanied by José Carioca, a Brazilian parrot, and Panchito Pistoles, a Mexican rooster. The film is significant for its role in the Good Neighbor Policy, aiming to strengthen U.S. ties with Latin America during World War II. 

The Three Caballeros travel through various countries, showcasing music, dance, and folklore. It showcases colorful, musical sequences that blend folklore and tradition, making it a pioneering effort in cross-cultural representation in American cinema.

In The Three Caballeros, Donald Duck is the American protagonist, known for his short temper and humorous antics. Throughout the film, he’s curious and eager to explore the vibrant cultures presented to him. José Carioca is a suave and sophisticated Brazilian parrot who introduces Donald to the music and dance of Brazil, particularly samba. He is depicted with a charming personality, often seen with an umbrella and a cigar. Panchito Pistoles is a cheerful and spirited Mexican rooster, representing the culture of Mexico. He is boisterous and adventurous, and serves as the group’s leader when they explore Mexican traditions, singing and dancing with enthusiasm. Together, these characters symbolize the unity and celebration of diverse cultures.

The Three Caballeros Disney Dooney and Bourke Collection includes a tote bag and crossbody bag. 

The tote bag features an allover print of Donald, José, and Panchito against a dark blue background. They are depicted in a number of different poses. The print also has banners with their names and “The Three Caballeros” on them, as well as papel picado featuring the shape of a flower. The Three Caballeros don their signature outfits and stand on a bright, colorful rug. Additionally, the print includes stars of different shapes, sizes, and colors.

The crossbody bag features an image of Donald, José, and Panchito each holding different colored guitars on the front. Above them are the banners that spell out their names. On the back, they are standing on a colorful rug and holding up the number 3 hand gesture. Above them are the banners for “Three Caballeros.” 

The handbags feature brown leather finishings with pink edging.
