Introduction to the 2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend, scheduled for January 30 to February 2, 2025, is a spectacular celebration of running, Disney magic, and community. This year, the event returns to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, following its highly anticipated comeback in 2024. For me, it’s the ultimate fusion of my love for running and the whimsical world of Disney.

What sets this race weekend apart is its ability to combine fitness with fun-filled days of events. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a first-timer like I once was, there’s something magical about running through the theme parks and the surrounding Anaheim area while the sun rises over Sleeping Beauty Castle.

What Makes the Disneyland Half Marathon Unique?

The charm of this race lies in its immersive experience. Running through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure before the parks open to guests is a surreal feeling. You’re not just running; you’re part of the story. Along the course, Disney characters cheer you on, from Mickey Mouse to newer favorites like Star Wars heroes. These moments make the miles fly by.

The themed races are unlike any other running experience I’ve had. The energy from the crowd and the sight of kids races in the mornings add to the family-friendly vibe. And, of course, the treasured finisher’s medals are a reward worth every step—they’re practically collector’s items.

Disneyland Half Marathon Registration Tips and Demand Insights

The general registration for these events is fiercely competitive. During my first race entry attempt, I learned that securing a spot requires preparation—multiple devices ready and logging in early are key. Unfortunately, all events for the 2025 Half Marathon Weekend are sold out.

While the registration fee may seem steep with the half marathon costing $260 and the Dumbo Double Dare costing $440, it’s worth every penny for the memories you’ll make. Plus, for those participating through a fundraising campaign, generous fundraising efforts can help cover the costs and support meaningful causes like cancer research. Some organizations offer race entry in exchange for meeting a fundraising requirement or minimum.

Preparing for the Event Without Overtraining

Training for a rundisney race doesn’t have to be intimidating. For my first time, I balanced my workouts with Disney-themed playlists and even practiced in my race costume to get into the spirit. The key is consistency and having fun. Focus on enjoying the journey rather than stressing about pace.

If you are looking for a place to start, the runDisney website has training plans for beginner and experienced runners, as well as running and pre-race preparation tips.

Hotel Recommendations

Staying close to the Disneyland Resort is crucial for a stress-free experience. Hotels within walking distance, like those on Harbor Boulevard, are incredibly convenient for race mornings. During my last race weekend, I stayed in a cozy spot just minutes away, and it made all the difference when navigating the early start times.

Transportation and Logistics

Arriving early on race day is essential. Parking is provided at the resort, but the lines can get backed up. I usually stay at a nearby hotel and walk to the starting line to keep things simple. Also, knowing where to go in the morning and the route to the starting line beforehand will save you unnecessary stress.

Making the Most of Disneyland Half Marathon Race Weekend

Planning ahead ensures you get the full Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend experience. After the race, I always reward myself with a visit to the theme parks. Dining at a carb-rich spot like Naples Ristorante in Downtown Disney for a post-race feast is a tradition I never skip.

If you have extra time, explore the surrounding Anaheim area. There are plenty of family-friendly attractions and dining options to keep the fun going.

runDisney Health & Fitness Expo

Participants must attend the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at least one day prior to their first event to pick up their race bib, participant shirt, and pre-purchased merchandise. The expo is held at the Disneyland Hotel and offers exclusive merchandise, photo opps, and a variety of exhibitor booths to visit.

Community and Social Aspects

One of the most heartwarming aspects of runDisney races is the sense of community. I’ve met incredible people through these events, many of whom were participating in the themed races for personal milestones or fundraising campaigns. The support and camaraderie on the course are unmatched.

Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon

If you are looking for even more chances to run at Disneyland, runDisney also has a Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend that takes place in September. This event includes a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and Chills & Thrills Challenge (10K and half marathon), as well as yoga and kids races.

Final Thoughts and Insider Tips

Packing essentials like sunscreen and comfortable shoes is a must. And don’t forget costumes—they’re half the fun! Reflecting on my own experiences, I’ve found that the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend isn’t just about running; it’s about embracing the Disney magic in every aspect of the journey.

Whether you’re inspired by the chance to run through Sleeping Beauty Castle or motivated to reach a personal goal, this race weekend is an unforgettable adventure. Lace up those sneakers, and I’ll see you at the finish line!
